Anahit Nersisyan

Early biography

First musical awards
Anahit Nersisyan, born in Yerevan, Armenia, received her first musical awards at the age of seven. Her latest award, given at her debut in Carnegie Hall, was first place in the 2009 Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition. A high soprano known for her excellent coloratura technique, Anahit is considered to have a voice that is unique and highly emotional. Her rich repertoire spans from J.S. Bach to S. Rachmaninov to contemporary composers.

Education

Practice with the best teachers

Anahit earned a Masters degree in vocal performance from Komitas State Conservatory, studying under Mariana Harutunyan. She won the Glinka International Competition in 1984 and first prize at the Paris Youth Festival in 1985. She made her debut in 1985 with the Mravinsky Orchestra in St. Petersburg, singing Verdi’s Requiem with the great Yelena Obraztsova. This concert launched her career.

She went on to perform Faure’s Requiem, J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Schubert’s Cantata in C Major. Her ability to learn quickly any given repertoire enabled her to sing with over forty different orchestras in the former Soviet Union.

Performances

Numerous concerts in America
In 1988 Anahit moved to Los Angeles. Since then, she has performed in over five hundred concerts. She won the California Opera Association competition (2000) and the Cirque Du Soleil competition (2003). She has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Glendale Symphony Orchestra (2004), the New Valley Orchestra (2006), the Westside Symphony Orchestra and the South Pacific Orchestra (2007).

Valuable contribution to the music
Anahit is the founder and presently vice president of a musical comedy theater, Y.M.M.B. Inc., based in Glendale, California. Over the years, Anahit has made many valuable contributions to the area music scene, as a singer, actress, and vocal coach. As Anahit likes to say, “Singing is not my profession, it is my life!”
